Congrats. But it is sad, another Ogilvy SG guy chased out by the backlash. This is really too much. You’d think Eugene could have stopped it all after the Cannes embarrassment.
Wow, that was fast. Good luck in the land of smiles.
Hi Bro, finally ya, congratulation for a new post !
WAY TO GO ERIC!!
Great move and Congratulations to Eric. He is a nice guy! Well done!!
Sounds perfect.
恭喜Eric!
Best la bro! Too bad for OGILVY
Congrats Eric! Eric is a good guy.
Lucky for Lowe Thailand to have found him. I know of 4 other people that turn the job down. Not Implying anything on Eric, just wondering why the other candidates didn’t take the offer?
I don’t know Eric but I know the CEO he is joining: smart solid great guy. Good luck on you.
Who are the 4 that turned it down? And why?
I get the feeling we will se another update on this boys career in the not so near future. You have to be really sharp at this level..not someone with a bag full of pro-active work.
We all had good bosses and creative leaders who helped us become better. And suffered through horrible bosses who were bullies and posers.
You rose because your talent was recognized and supported by great bosses in the past.
Now that the baht stops with you, I humbly suggest you do the same with the team of Thais who you will now lead.
And prove that the Thais have no reason to distrust or reject you as a Foreign Talent.
Learn from good bosses.
Don’t repeat the habits of bad bosses.
And you will do better than good there.
Dear Don’t Unpack Yet,
Pro-active or not, Eric is a good guy. People like you fascinate me. You sat down at your computer and actually spent the time to sling an insult just so you could take a breather from your obvious bitterness. Please do yourself a favor and buy a big sack of prozac so you can think happy thoughts.
Dear Don’t Unpack Yet,
You have a good point. The new role requires problem solving skills at an integrated level, rather than the ability to come up with pro bono ideas to win ideas for ad hoc categories.
What Ive said is not bitter…its simply true. Its borne out by seeing this boy talk and act in close proximity. If you want a concept art directed, Id say hes a safe bet. Like a dozen guys out there. Fact is, If you want to be a CCO you have to first speak to clients in decent and articulate english. You need to understand and develop strategy. You should not get defensive at every comment here. Give it six months and let’s chat again. Kum siah.
Congrats Eric! LOWE is gonna be a place to be soon!
Oh Peter, swallowed by the ad gossip nonsense
Dear Don’t Unpack Yet,
I think Eric will have a good team when he joins. Some people in Thailand or even in the network like to predict his failure because most are jealous of his position. It’s a big job and one man cannot do it alone. This is where the hardworking creative department and management heads come in; minus the overpaid freeloaders and political players, of course.
Funny how Don’t Unpack Yet forgot to put “be extremely creative and push for outstanding creative work” in the requirements to become a CCO. It’s called Chief CREATIVE Officer, right? Shouldn’t that be on top of the list? Now we know what kind of person Don’t Unpack Yet is 😉
Reckon it’s a good gig?
Anyone with real facts know what salary and package cco’s at that level get?
Juat because one doesn’t speak well his chances of failure is higher. It all depends on his heart, his passion and his talent. I have seen successful creative rise thru talent and heart. His passion towards the team and clients are more important than another Ang Moh who can probably speak well but can’t do the job. I have faith with Eric who will try his best to work hard and make Lowe Bangkok a smashing success!!!!!
It takes a lot more than vague concepts like ‘heart’ and ‘passion’ to succeed in this post…and to win over the thais (who have never been subjected to foreign rule)….it’s about basic competency and actually understanding this business is about communication and not only clever visuals, well art directed. More than the work, it’s about being the creative statesman for your agency. Talking beyond ads, not just mumbling about creative standards. And above all, its about having done some real work that says you know what you’re doing. Sometimes you have to be careful what you wish for. Now, he’s got it.
Eric just don’t make the mistake of walking in and saying NO SCAM ADS then bully people to make a bunch of ads for colored pencils, storage boxes and other brands not on Lowes client roster and you will be just fine. Manila was a bust. Now you’re in a real hard market. Good luck E.
Dear Dont unpack yet,
Eric is the GREAT! Be it 6 days, 6 weeks or 6 months…. At least once CCO!
Sounds like Don’t unpack yet is a bitter angmoh who has been eyeing the position..
Lowe Thailand got a great CCO and CEO. Eric is easily one of the best in Asia. This is winning.
