Leo Burnett wins first ever Lion for Sri Lanka
Leo Burnett Solutions Inc. created history by being the first ever Sri Lankan agency to win a Lion at the Cannes Festival. They won Bronze in the Best Consumer Engagement category for work done for the Mawbima newspaper, with the agency’s national flag concept.
Ranil De Silva, Managing Director, Leo Burnett Solutions Inc. commenting on the win at Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity stated, “We at Leo Burnett Solutions are overwhelmed with the acknowledgement that the national flag concept received at the world’s most recognised festival of creativity, this is the first time that a Sri Lankan agency has been recognised at Cannes. We consider it a great honour that has been bestowed upon Sri Lanka ad industry; Leo Burnett Colombo is honoured to bring creative recognition to Sri Lanka.”
The national flag initiative was created by Leo Burnett Sri Lanka in partnership with Starcom to celebrate the national day by creating a patriotic feeling amongst all Sri Lankans by turning a national newspaper into a national flag which engaged people like never before.

congratulation sachin, keep on rockin 🙂
Sachin, time to double your salary down there man. Ranil doesn’t deserve you after all the work you put into this. Time to make some good money or move on old friend. Until then, congrats on the big win in a very tough market.
congrats guys…. awesome result for the industry in colombo.
hopefully many more to come!
Congratulations to Sri Lanka, plus it’s nice work.
Congrats! Keep on the good work and heading for the right track. At least this piece is a real work. Keep it up. Don’t head for the scam path but the right path.
@BOO
Work wasn’t Sachin’s alone!
It was conceptualized by a copy based ACD at leo. One Eraj Wirasinghe. Too bad that man didn’t get his pic here with the creative team responsible. No single man can win advertising. It always take a team. Starting from Ranil himself.
Seeker – CB Asia asked Sachin to send in this photo standing with the entry in Cannes.
Congrats and big thanks to our teams from Leo Burnett Solutions, Starcom and 24 Frames for this wonderful achievement. Ranil, thank you for your leadership.

CONGRATS .
You left out so many other names! All of Colombo knows who really did this work. Just admit that you left out the intern team who did all the ground work here and was personally directed by Sachin. Congrats to you all, fantastic news for the Lankins!
Those names all count. But don’t take anything away from the ECD. He was crazy enough to take that job. ECDs are like head coaches who get all the shit when they win, and even more shit when they lose. And if he is an Ogilvy CD and loses we all know he pays with his job if he loses. And when they lose nobody is raising their hands for a slash of credit. They all run away and hide. Same with footing the bill for the entries. Where is the media company then? And I never know why these media agencies get any credit at all just for booking some ad space. Congrats to Sachin!!!!!
@SR
My reply was aimed at “Boo” cos he was undermining the MD who had done a bloody brilliant job with that office.
Nobody is saying an ECD or in Sachin’s case, the CCO is redundant.
What’s wrong is undermining the team including the man who leads that company, one Mr. Ranil De Silva who has done so much to ensure they get a Cannes lion. And that comment by “boo” is downright insulting to somebody who works as hard as Mr. De Silva.
Props to Karen Lim for making it clear. Peace out!
If stealing is considered a crime in this world then what is wrong can never be made right. CCo’s and ECd’s have grown to this position because they had good bosses. But now if a group head and art director is stripped off their claim to fame how can they grow?. There are more scavengers in this industry than The savannah. My congratulations to Eraj, Shyani , salute to Leo Burnett Sri Lanka and the person who heads it for bringing the first metal home.
