Director’s Think Tank named Production House of the Year and young director Chevie Law wins Kancils 666 at 2018 Malaysian Kancil Awards
After a one year hiatus, the new look Kancils Advertising Awards and Festival was a bold new step for the Malaysian Advertising Industry showcasing a broad spectrum of work.
With wins in numerous categories, Directors Think Tank won the production house of the year award – topping the awards tally for production houses at the awards ceremony at Chin Woo Stadium last Friday night.
Picking up numerous bronze and merit awards for the MAS ‘Raya around the world’ film across multiple categories, a Silver and Bronze for Air Asia’s ‘Road less travelled’ film, & 2 Bronzes for ‘Save the Children – Musical chairs’ spot amongst others, it was a memorable night for director Rajay Singh and the DTT Team. Another of his spots, Edge Property – ‘Under one roof’ also picked up numerous bronze wins.
Also by Rajay, the MAS Raya and Maxis Ai vs Mi won the illustrious Gold Award for Best use of Cultural Insight and Gold award for Film Direction: Single respectively.
“Of course it’s nice that some of the more established production houses won tonight, but it was great to see other younger talents striving to do better work – these are the ones to watch out for next year” he said.
In a similar vein, when asked what the win meant for Director’s Think Tank, Executive Producer Pat Singh simply replied, “Now we have to work even harder,” highlighting the team’s commitment to hard work.
Another notable win was the heart-warming short film ‘In memories’ by Chevie Law. Produced by Tan Shu Ying of DTT, she assisted Chevie Law in executing her vision, which took the top prize in the Kancil 666 Young director’s challenge.
“We are excited by Chevie’s work and look forward to more great things from her”, Tek Nam Heng, Executive Producer said. “Now let’s get back to work,” he said with a smile.
