WWF China.jpgHave you ever calculated how many Earths it takes to support the lifestyle that you lead?

According to Global Footprint Network’s calculations, our demand for renewable natural resources and the services they provide is now equivalent to that of more than 1.5 Earths.

Grey Group China decided to take action to support “Earth Overshoot Day” by launching a comprehensive social media movement in saving our natural resources through a Mathematics Formula, which factors people’s lifestyle consumption choices, on SNS to answer “How many Earths does it take to support 7 billion of you?”

Canon Wu, Chief Digital Creative Officer of Grey Group Greater China, commented, “As we look deeper into the issue, we’ve stumbled upon some very alarming facts: This year, 2015, Earth Overshoot Day marks on August 13, where as in 2000, it was marked on Oct 1. Each year, Earth Overshoot Day is pushed ahead. We must get the public to care and take ‘Earth Overshoot Day’ seriously. We want to build greater public awareness on reducing the excessive consumption of our natural resources by starting to make changes to our very own way of living.”

WWF China 2.jpgJust as we approach August 13 there’s the exciting discovery of the Earthlike planet, Kepler 452b, yet it is 1,400 light years away from us. It all just makes “Earth Overshoot Day” more critical than ever,” she added.

They have stepped up their game in drawing in more public support: four KPLs join us to call for more green action, by leveraging their influences to promote green action mindset and actions, and 13 major retailers to promote the campaign.

“WWF have been promoting the sustainability in generating and consuming while satisfying humans’ needs of natural resources without demolishing more, which brings harmony between the demand and the supply within our only Earth, said Dr. LI Lin, Executive Director of Programme, WWF China.

Lin added that, “As we approach Earth Overshoot Day, we want to pass on the idea of sustainable consumption by getting more people involved, by inviting social responsible companies to join us, and consequently to convert the industry chain in motion to act on sustainable consumption, and eventually make the new consumption norm.”
