Roam with Rendezvous.jpgCase Study: Children Little Museum, The Cat Museum and Hear Records and even the century-old façade of the Rendezvous Hotel Singapore are some of the quaint, hidden gems that you can find in the Bras Basah.Bugis precinct – but how many more do you know?

In uncovering the to-go’s and must-see’s spots in Singapore’s arts and cultural district, Rendezvous Hotel Singapore brought Australian travel influencer, Sophee Southall, and the wider social media community together in a storytelling adventure called ‘Roam with Rendezvous’. As the hotel’s first foray into video content marketing, ‘Roam with Rendezvous’ rides on the wave of storytelling in appealing to the millennials, which constitutes a large portion of the hotel’s social media fan base, and to reinforce its position as an art-inspired hotel.

Roam with Rendezvous2.jpgThe four-month campaign ran from November 2016 to February 2017, comprising four main phases – crowdsourcing of itinerary ideas, a filming and live social media update segment, the release of three webisodes and a series of storification that followed.

The crowdsourcing surfaced in the form of a social media contest, which was held among fans on Facebook and Instagram to identify the to-go’s and must-see’s of Bras Basah.Bugis. With a list of over 280 crowdsourced ideas, close to 20 locations were shortlisted for Southall’s adventure that were spread over three episodes – “Arts, Culture & Heritage”, “Leisure & Play”, and “Instaworthy Spots”.

Roam with Rendezvous3.jpgSouthall’s mini-adventure started with her learning about Rendezvous Hotel Singapore’s century-old façade and architecture. It then took her to little known destinations such as Singapore’s privately-owned museums, the Children Little Museum and The Cat Museum, and esoteric art enclaves like Hear Records, a vintage vinyl record style, and DECK, an independent art space that supports Singapore’s burgeoning photography community.

Roam with Rendezvous4.jpgIn giving Southall a true-blue local experience, the Australia influencer also met her Singaporean counterpart, Smith Leong, who is a lifestyle blogger, and local singer-songwriter, Inch Chua, who shared many of their personal stories with her. Not forgetting ten of the most interesting “Instagram-worthy” sites in Bras Basah.Bugis, Southall’s light-hearted but action-packed journey ended at the lounge of Rendezvous Hotel Singapore, The Library – the latest addition to the hotel’s facilities in bolstering its offerings as an art-inspired hotel

As part of social media storytelling, Facebook Live and Instagram Story were also used to engage eager fans who have contributed to the crowdsourced itinerary.

Roam with Rendezvous5.jpgThe ‘Roam with Rendezvous’ mini-series was launched in December 2016 on Rendezvous Hotel Singapore’s Facebook Page and YouTube channel. To date, there has been close to 300,000 video views. To give viewers a taste of Southall’s eventful journey, each episode was pegged to a contest where winners were entitled to novelty prizes from some of the featured shops.

‘Roam with Rendezvous’ extended in 2017 to include an Instagram photowalk, where avid Instagram enthuasiasts were treated to a visually and culturally-impactful tour of Bras Basah.Bugis.
