JWT Disco website cover image.jpgIt’s time for advertising and marketing students to bring it on in Jakarta. The JWT Disco, which is now touring campus, has opened the floor to aspiring creatives, planners and suits in the country’s first-ever student brief competition. The top prize: a full time role at JWT Jakarta.

JWT Disco, short for “Discovery”, is a one-of-a-kind talent scouting initiative set up by JWT Jakarta to discover the country’s future advertising star. The contest, planned as an annual event, is open to anyone between the ages of 18 to 24 years old who is registered as student at a university in Indonesia.

“Competition for talent in Indonesia is fierce, and turnover is high. We wanted to set JWT apart, and make the recruitment process more exciting and engaging for students,” said Ratna Puspita, JWT Jakarta’s Creative Group Head. “It’s also great way to help us zero in on the top talent.”JWT Jakarta kicked off a 10 campus tour this week to generate buzz, and has released two teaser videos. On January 30, the agency will launch www.jwtdisco.com, where students can find more information about the competition – the rules, the judges, and important dates. Online registration will be open from February 14 to 28.

DISCO1.jpgTo add momentum, JWT will host an “Ad Talk Sharing Session” at its office on February 14, where students will be invited to meet directly with JWT leaders at JWT office. JWT will set up a live stream broadcast of this session on Google+ Hangout. JWTers will act as VJ’s, reporting live from the event and taking questions from online audiences.

On March 1, JWT Jakarta will release the first brief to applicants, who need to file their submissions by March 3 to the Board of Judges, which include JWT Jakarta CEO Lulut Asmoro; Chief Creative Officer Ivan Hady Wibowo; Chief Strategy Officer Daniel Siswandi; Chief Account Officer JWT Johan Shabudin, XM Gravity CEO Nanda Ivens, and XM JWT Chief Digital Officer Chandra Wijaya.

DISCO2.jpgEight finalists will be selected, and will be invited into the agency on March 14 to work on the final, contest brief, which must be completed the same day. “The final round should be exciting to all of us as the idea is to let our student experience a live simulation of working on a real brief in real time,” said Pingkan Rarumangkay, JWT Jakarta’s Creative Director. The winner will be announced that afternoon.

“This is the first kind of competition to ever exist in the industry and in Indonesia – a competition for university students that rewards a full time employment at an advertising agency,” according to Sandila Ekaputri, JWT Jakarta’s Strategy Manager. “If the initiative garners a lot of excitement, we plan to run the next season on a nationwide-scale.”
