New York Festivals 2010 Awards Call for Entries

New York Festivals 2010 International Advertising Awards has officially announced its Call for Entries.For  53 years, the Awards has honored work in all media from around theworld:  television, cinema, print, outdoor, interactive, design, mixedmedia, collateral, radio and student advertising.  

NewYork Festivals online judging system ensures that each entry receivesthe proper amount of time and attention, in an environment that is freefrom outside distractions and unsolicited opinions. The online judgingsystem is the first line of defense against scam ads.  Judges areallowed to flag a suspected scam ad simply by checking a box whenviewing an entry online. NYF jury members are encouraged to writeconfidential comments online to support their suspicions, once entriesare flagged, an investigation into the allegations will commence.  

In a year plagued with a global economic downturn, NYFInternational Advertising Awards reported an increase in 2009 in theirglobal footprint, with 132 new companies and 6 new countries submittingentries in last year’s competition.  NYF also saw an incredible 61%increase in digital entries. This increase was seen in the Digital +Interactive competition and the newly launched Avant-Garde competition. 

Forthe first time in the history of the advertising competition, NYFhosted a World Tour of the 2009 International Advertising Awards. Thisseries of award presentations and a THINKBIG Speakers Series showcasingDigital, Interactive, Avant-garde and Social Media allowed NYF toexpand their reach and bring the awards ceremonies to trophy winnersaround the world.  The World Tour events were held in six cities aroundthe world, premiering in July in Chicago, followed by Manila, Shanghai,Madrid, Mumbai and Santiago de Chile in late October.  

The2009 jury honored work from 71 countries around the world, awarding 6Grand Trophies, 149 Gold Medals, 173 Silver Medals and 243 BronzeMedals in the following competitions: Art & Technique, Avant-Garde,Collateral, Design, Digital + Interactive, Mixed Media, Outdoor, Print,TV/Cinema, Radio and Student.

The prestigioustitle of Network of the Year was awarded to BBDO Worldwide. BBDO NewYork was recognized for their exceptional work and bestowed the titleof Agency of the Year, for the second year in a row, led by DaveLubars, Chairman and Chief Creative Officer, BBDO North America.  Thecoveted titled of Advertiser of the Year was awarded to Adidas, theGerman based sports apparel company. Adidas garnered ten World Medals,in this year’s competition.  

kempertrautmann,Hamburg was presented with the just launched New Agency of the YearAward.  CumminsNitro, Brisbane received the newly minted BoutiqueAgency of the Year Award; and Revolver Films, Sydney took home therecently launched Production Company of the Year Award.   New YorkFestivals Lifetime Achievement Awards were presented to iconiccommercial director Joe Sedelmaier and legendary ad man Neil French. 

Thefollowing agencies received the Grand Trophy in 2009: CumminsNitro,Brisbane’s “Best Job in the World” for Tourism Queensland in theDigital + Interactive competition; BBDO NY, USA “HBO Audio MuralInstallations” for client HBO/Big Love in the Mixed Media competition; BBDO/Proximity, Malaysia “Two World’s” for client Jeep in the Printcompetition; Big Ant International, USA “What Goes Around Comes Around”for client Global Coalition for Peace in the Outdoor competition; Crispin Porter + Bogusky, USA “Whopper Sacrifice” for client BurgerKing in the Avant-Garde competition; and Publicis, France “Rewind City”for client Orange TV in the TV/Cinema competition.  Grand Awardrecipients are selected from among the highest scoring Gold Medalistsin medalists in all categories within the competition.

NYF’s2009 jury comprised 255 senior creative directors from 56 countriesaround the world, representing the largest and most diverse jury of anyadvertising competition in the world. All future New York Festivalsjury members must be nominated by three current members and must haveat least the title of creative director, or its equivalent to serve asjurors.  NYF’s peer recommendation program for selecting jury membersallows industry experts the opportunity to pass the torch and keep thecompetition fresh. All 2009 jury members are listed on the NYF website.  The 2010 jury will be announced soon.
