Dentsu Inc Tokyo named 2018 Japan Creative Agency of the Year: TBWA\Hakuhodo Tokyo’s Yoshihiro Kono + Norihito Takahashi named #1 and #2 most awarded creatives in Japan

CB Asia Ranking 2018_JAPAN.jpgYuya Furukawa.jpgIn the Campaign Brief Asia Creative Rankings Japan continues to be the most prodigious award-winning market in Asia with a combined total of 8655 Creative Ranking Points from the past 2 years at award shows. Japan clearly leads the next most awarded market, Thailand with 5480 Creative Ranking Points.

With 5315 points overall Dentsu Inc Tokyo remains a clear #1 in Japan, and in Asia. The agency picked up 2545 of these points over the past 12 months – again the best performance of any agency in Asia. McCann Worldgroup India, with 2,200 Creative Ranking Points at award shows over the past 12 months, is the next best performer. In recognition of their creative performances Dentsu Inc Tokyo is again awarded the Campaign Brief 2018 Japan Creative Agency of the Year award.  

In 2018 Dentsu Inc Tokyo (creatively lead by ECD Yuya Furukawa, pictured above) picked up awards at every award show they entered. Their best performances were at Spikes Asia (530pts), London International Awards (410pts), Cannes Lions (350pts), AdStars (300pts), One Show (260pts), D&AD (250pts) and AdFest (205pts).

CB Asia Ranking 2018_JAPAN_Agencies.jpgIn these Campaign Brief Asia 2018 Creative Rankings Dentsu sits 1,995 points in front of #2 ranked TBWA\Hakuhodo Tokyo. With an overall high total of 3,320 points TBWA\Hakuhodo Tokyo is also one of the star performers of this year’s Creative Rankings.

TBWA\Hakuhodo Tokyo increased momentum over the past 12 months scoring 1,905 points of their total in 2018. Their best performances were at AdStars (470pts), One Show (380pts), AdFest (350pts), Clio (230pts), London International Awards (215pts) and D&AD (100pts).

TBWA\Hakuhodo Tokyo was also placed #2 in last year’s Creative Rankings, after moving up from #5 overall in Japan in 2016.

#3 in Japan is Hakuhodo Inc Tokyo with 1935 Creative Ranking Points from the past two years. The agency accumulated 1,005 points over the past 12 months with the best results coming from AdFest (255pts), Clio (220pts), London International Awards (200pts) and Spikes Asia (160pts).

Moving up one spot to #4 position in the Japan Hottest Agency Ranking is Ogilvy Tokyo. The agency has 1,365 Creative Ranking Points and enjoyed a bumper year of award success over the past 12 months with 1,095 of their total coming in 2018.

Ogilvy scored well at D&AD (320pts), London International Awards (305pts) and One Show (310pts).

Six Inc Tokyo was not ranked last year, but with 510 points in 2018 now sits at #6 position.

#7 is Hakuhodo Kettle Tokyo with 490 points. Hakuhodo Kettle Tokyo moves up from #11 last year.

Rounding out the Japan Hottest Agencies Top 10 is Beacon Leo Burnett Tokyo (#8), Iyama Design Tokyo (#9), and at equal #10 is ADK Tokyo and J Walter Thompson Tokyo.

In the Japan Hottest Creatives Ranking of individual creatives working in Japan, two TBWA\Hakuhodo Tokyo creatives fill the two top positions for the first time.

The #1 creative in Japan is Yoshihiro Kono (pictured left, top) with 2,160 Creative Ranking Points. His fellow TBWA\Hakuhodo Tokyo colleague Norihito Takahashi (pictured left, 2nd top) is ranked #2, just 10 points behind. Both were ranked in equal #6 position in last year’s Creative Rankings.

#3 in the Japan Rankings this year is Dentsu Tokyo’s Marina Danjo. Danjo (pictured left, 3rd from top) has 1,905 Creative Ranking Points andin last year’s Creative Rankings was ranked #2.

Last year’s #1 ranked Haruko Tsutsui (pictured left, 4th from top), from Dentsu Tokyo, is ranked #4 this year with 1,810 points.

#5 is another Dentsu Tokyo creative, Yoshihiro Yagi (pictured left, 5th from top). He was ranked #3 last year and has a total of 1,640 points overall.

At equal #6 is Scott Lehman (Lehman Ad Tokyo) and Ajab Samrai from Ogilvy Japan. Both have 1,335 Creative Ranking Points, with Samrai improving on his 2017 ranking by 14 places. Samrai (pictured left, at bottom) has now relocated to Singapore to take on a regional CCO role with Ogilvy.

#8 this year in Japan is Daisuke Hatakeyama from Dentsu Tokyo (1,310pts).

#9 with 1,275 points is Chino Yamaguchi from TBWA\Hakuhodo Tokyo, who moves up from a ranking of #27 last year.

Hakuhodo Inc Tokyo’s Yuta Okuyama fills the #10 spot this year with 1,195 points.
