Jiyoun Lee (pictured), who leads the Shanghai office, said, “We understand the Chinese culture and industry very well as we’ve been working for the China market since early year 2000. The unique recipe of Locus comes from our own in-house design centre, animation centre and R&D centre. This combination bring us a huge and effective synergy which allows us to achieve, ‘Art in Technology’ – the strength of Locus.”

Lee said the Shanghai operation will be fully backed up by over 300 experts from Seoul in real time through Locus’ unique pipeline, ‘Locman’.

Locus Seoul was founded in 2009 with only had 40 artists. Now, they boast over 300 talented and professional artists in two offices; one in Gangnam and in Sungsu in Korea.

The secret of Locus’ success is to ‘keep investing’ for Design & Technology because Locus believes CGI Animation and VFX is all about Design & Tech. Jiyoun Lee says the Design centre, R&D centre and Animation centre is the tripod of this quality.

The Design centre consists of the motion graphics team, artwork and 3D art teams who seamlessly collaborate across the project from the planning stage until the completion.

The R&D centre is the back bone of Locus’ uniqueness. A group of software development experts/stereoscopic 3D artists/VR technicians consistently support each project with technical solutions.

Another strong pillar of Locus is the Animation centre who are well known in character and digital creature build and extends its reach to IP business and feature 3D animation. This June, Locus had a soft launch of their full 3D animation feature film, “Red Shoes and the 7 Dwarfs” at Cannes film festival.

The animation centre is led by Jin Kim, the world-famous character designer, who has worked for the Walt Disney Animation studio for 20 years. Kim designed characters for numerous Disney’s feature animations including ‘Frozen’, ‘Moana’, ‘Big Hero’ and ‘Bolt’.
