Spikes Asia: Colenso BBDO NZ crowned Agency of the Year; BBDO named Network of the Year; Finch awarded Spikes Palm award; Independent Agency of the Year awarded to Party, Tokyo

Spikes-Asia-2016.jpgBBDO at Spikes.jpgThe final day of Spikes Asia culminated in a ceremony last night in Singapore to celebrate the winners of the annual Spikes Asia Awards. The industry gathered to honour the best regional work.

Network of the Year was presented to BBDO with Y&R coming second and Leo Burnett in third place.

Colenso BBDO, Auckland received the Agency of the Year award while sister shop Clemenger BBDO Melbourne came second and Dentsu Inc., Tokyo placed third.

The Independent Agency of the Year was awarded to Party, Tokyo. Second place to Fred & Farid Shanghai and third to Enjin, Tokyo.

Finch, Australia received the Spikes Palm Award, honouring the most awarded production company in the eligible sections. Second came Guilty Content, Australia and third, Revolver/Will O’Rourke, Australia.

REWORD.jpgThis is the fourth time that BBDO has won Network of the Year, having previously won it in 2015, 2014 and 2012.

 

9 BBDO offices across the Asia Pacific network collected 86 awards, including 6 Grand Prix, 2 Creative Effectiveness Spikes, 24 Gold, 20 Silver and 33 Bronze trophies, as well as a Spike for Music.

In changing and sometimes challenging times, winning Network of the Year, and doing it for the third year running, goes a long way in demonstrating that our mantra of the work, the work, the work is more relevant than ever.”

The Grand Prix for Good went to Leo Burnett Melbourne, Australia for the Reword campaign for Headspace.  

Starcom, Melbourne was awarded Media Agency of the Year. Mediacom New Zealand, Auckland received second place and third went to PHD, Auckland.

J Walter Thompson Bangkok had a good night, winning three Grand Prix for Samsung Touchable Ink – one in Innovation, one in Healthcare and one in Design. The agency also took one Gold, one Silver and two more Bronze for the Touchable Ink, Berlitz Outdoor Campaign and Oriental Princess “Lip Rescue” Film.

Nicole McMillan, Vice-President of Marketing for the Asia-Pacific region within the Wrigley Company, a subsidiary of Mars, Incorporated, accepted the Advertiser of the Year Award on behalf of Mars, Incorporated.

This year, a record-breaking 5,132 entries were received across 20 awards and two new Spikes –  Music and Digital Craft – were honoured.

Terry Savage, Chairman of Spikes Asia, said that this year’s award-winning work had set the benchmark of excellence across the region: “It’s inspiring to observe the year-on-year growth of the Festival, where we can award work that has a distinctly regional identity, while also being truly world-class. Spikes Asia is setting the bar of excellence for the industry.”
