Three Japanese + one Thai director make the cut at the international Young Director Awards

Directors.jpgDirectors 2.jpgThe Young Director Awards has announced its finalists for 2014 with with three directors from Japan and one from Thailand making the cut. Winners to be announced on June 19 in Cannes.

Tomoichiro Setsuda from Japan has been shortlisted in the Short Film category for A Man. Keisuke Kuroyanagi also from Japan has been shortlisted for his Short Film – Deads along with MacKenzie Sheppard from Ima-gen Japan for his Short Film – Oba Chan. Jan Mantanakorn from Thailand has been shortlisted in the Video Art category for Curated by Ek Thongprasert AW2013 Dream a Dream – Fashion Film.

Setsuda and Kuroyanagi were both finalists at the recent AdFest’s Fabulous Four competition. Setsuda’s entry “A Man” went on to win the top prize.

From Australia The Feds’ Craig Rasmus has been shortlisted twice in the Animation and Charity categories for his ‘5 Fund‘ campaign for Unicef.

Other Australian directors are Alex Grigg in the Animation category for ‘Phantom Limb‘, Matthew Thorne in the Film School category for ‘Where Do Lilacs Come From‘, Adolescent Content director Tim White in Music Video category for DCUP ‘Don’t Be Shy‘, Mont Albert Road’s Tim Bathurst in Web Film for Sant and Abel’s ‘Sleepwalk‘ and @Radical Media Berlin’s Josh Dawson for ‘The Human Race‘.

Two New Zealand directors have also made the Young Directors Award shortlist; 8’s Michael Humphrey in the Web Film category for Mountain Dew NZ’s ‘Directions‘ and Christopher Frey in the Short Film category for ‘Explosions‘.

The next round of judging will take place in Cannes with the winners announced at our 16th show on Thursday June 19th at the JW Mariott Theatre. Doors open at 4pm and the Award Ceremony begins at 5pm.
