Asia nets 109 shortlists in Outdoor category at Cannes Lions: Y&R Beijing, McCann Mumbai and BBDO Singapore lead the way

Penguin Moby Dick.jpgPenguin Alice in Wonderland.jpgAsia has just over 20 percent of all the Shortlists in the Cannes Lions Outdoor category. The shortlist contains a whopping 501 entries and Asian agencies account for 109 of them.

China is leading the way for Asia with a very creditable 35 shortlists. Y&R Beijing has 17 shortlists 14 of them for their Penguin China Audio Books “Mic” poster campaign that shows that classic stories are better told, not just read. Y&R Shanghai also had 4 shortlists making a combined 21 in total for the network. Leagas Delaney Shanghai also had 6 shortlists and Lowe China 5.

India is the next best performing Asian country in Outdoor with 17 shortlists – 12 for these for McCann Worldwide India.

Guinness 4.jpgGuinness2.jpgSingapore had 14 shortlists overall – 10 of which were for BBDO Proximity Singapore’s highly regarded Guinness poster campaign for Asia Pacific Breweries.

Japan and Hong Kong each scored 11 shortlists.

Vietnam scored 7 shortists; The Philippine 4; Thailand 3; Malaysia, Bangladesh and Pakistan had 2 shortlists each and South Korea had 1.

This year, 5660 entries from 80 countries were entered into the category – the largest number of any category. The Outdoor Lions trophies will be presented during the Media, Mobile and Outdoor Lions Awards Ceremony, which will take place on Tuesday evening 17 June. The Cannes Lions Outdoor jury will again award two Grands Prix, one for Billboards & Street Posters/Indoor Posters/Adapted Outdoor and one for Ambient/Integrated.

This year’s jury president is Jose Miguel Sokoloff, President, Lowe Global Creative Council & Co Chairman and CCO Lowe SSP3 Colombia. Asia is represented on the jury by Eugene Cheong (Ogilvy & Mather Asia/Pacific), Kevin Lee (Leagas Delaney China), Tista Sen (JWT India), Keiichi Higuchi (Dentsu Tokyo), Gigi Lee (Y&R Malaysia), and Cristina Tin Sanchez (BBDO Guerrero Philippines).

India entered 211 entries into Outdoor, China has 205 entries in the category, Singapore has 170 entries, Thailand 124 and Japan has 100. Brasil leads the way with 776 entries.
