Nescafe.jpgIn collaboration with Publicis Vietnam and director Damon Escott, Sudest Production in Ho Chi Minh City has delivered a bigger and better version of Nescafe’s popular Café Viet ‘Blown Away’ campaign.

Shot in Saigon over the course of three long days, the spot for the creatives at Publicis Vietnam was conceived as the next step in their popular ‘Blown Away’ series of commercials.

According to Sudest’s EP Carl Wyant, the commercial was a practical effects and production design challenge. “The idea from the agency was to take the Blown Away concept for their Nescafe Café Viet brand to a new level, flying their hero across the city and bursting through the walls of a new, modern environment.”

Nescafe 2.jpgAfter all, it’s a strong coffee for a strong man.

“Tremendous credit goes to the team at Publicis and Nescafe for pushing this kind of high-end creative for their Vietnam based brand, and hat’s off to the Vietnamese production team, our freelance collaborators, and the vfx specialists at the Spice Shop in Bangkok for their collective expertise.”

A relative newcomer to the Vietnam market, Escott is a veteran of action and vfx spots across Asia and Australia, and his visual storytelling skills were put to the test with the challenge to take the Nescafe Café Viet man further than he’d gone before, while keeping the action both realistic and comedic at the same time.

Nescafe 3.jpg“From the first glance at the agency’s boards, it was easy to see what the commercial needed to be,” said Escott. “The challenge was to make it all come together with a very short schedule, and the team from Sudest really rose to the occasion. With a spot like this that goes to the top of my reel, I’m anxious to return to Vietnam again to work with their team on the next creative opportunity.”

The only line of dialogue in the spot comes from the dashing and understated Nescafe Café Viet man, and sums it up for the brand, “Wow, that’s strong coffee!”

The girls just can’t resist.
