Colenso BBDO New Zealand crowned Agency of the Year at the inaugural APAC Effie Awards 2014

48390_punishment.jpgThe APAC Effie has celebrated the winners of the 2014 Awards at its Awards Gala on April 3 at Conrad Centennial Singapore – presenting a total of 56 awards – 12 Golds, 26 Silvers and 18 Bronzes.

56 entries have emerged as winners from amongst finalists from 16 countries, proving to be the most effective marketing campaigns in the region. Australia, China and New Zealand are ranked the top 3 countries with the highest number of winners.

From Asia gold winners were Lowe Lintas & Partners Mumbai with two golds. I&S BBDO Tokyo, Oglivy & Mather Thailand, Cheil Worldwide South Korea, Lowe Singapore and BBDO Hong Kong all received one gold each. (See full list of golds below.)

Also announced at the Awards Gala were the APAC Effie 2014 Agency of the Year and Agency Network of the Year Awards. Colenso BBDO/Proximity New Zealand was awarded the Agency of the Year Award, with Lowe Lintas & Partners Mumbai and Whybin\TBWA Sydney following closely in the second and third positions respectively.

Effie winners.jpgBBDO Worldwide was named the Agency Network of the Year, picking up a total of 2 Golds, 7 Silvers and 6 Bronzes from its agencies in the region. In the running were Ogilvy & Mather and Lowe & Partners.Colenso BBDO has been awarded Agency of the Year at the inaugural APAC Effie Awards Gala that was held overnight at the Conrad Centennial in Singapore.

Colenso had ten finalists representing five different brands – Bank of New Zealand, Mountain Dew, Samsung, Tip Top and Amnesty International – with Bank of New Zealand, Frucor Beverages, Tip Top and Amnesty International receiving awards.

Going into the show BNZ led the charge with three finalists on the night spread across two campaigns, ‘Be Good with Money’ and ‘Work til’ you Die’ in the Financial Products and Services category. Amnesty International also had three chances for the ‘Trial by Timeline’ Facebook campaign to pick up an award. Tip Top had two finalists for ‘Feel Tip Top’ and Samsung one for ‘The Smart Phone Line’. Mountain Dew had one finalist with “Beyond the Wall’.

Andy McLeish, head of planning at Colenso, believes that the success of campaigns developed in New Zealand signal an opportunity for locally based creative companies saying.

Says McLeish: “We’re over the moon to be named most effective agency in the Asia Pacific region, just a few weeks after being named agency of the year at Axis here in NZ. These awards, many for the same pieces of work, are great evidence of creativity driving outstanding business results. We’d love New Zealand agencies to be net exporters of creative ideas around the region, and this sort of recognition can only help us with that.”

The agency also one two Gold and one Silver for Insurance Australia Group’s ‘Car Creation’.
