Kevin Le joins Y&R Jakarta as ECD

Kevin Le.jpgKevin Le, the equal number one ranked creative in last year's Campaign Brief Asia Creative Rankings, is to join Y&R Jakarta as Executive Creative Director.

He joins from BBDO/Proximity Malaysia, where he spent the last seven years working on major brands including MINI, Pepsi, Drypers, Olympus and KFC. He was part of the Jeep "Two Worlds" team that won multiple Gold awards at shows including Cannes, D&AD, Clio, New York Festivals, London International Awards and Spikes Asia. The campaign turned out to be easily the most awarded print campaign of 2009 and ranked No1. in The Gunn Report 2009. An anti-drink driving campaign for HELP was also a major award winner and picked up a Malaysian Effie. Prior to BBDO/Proximity, Le was at Naga DDB and McCann-Erickson.

Speaking about his appointment, Le (pictured above) said, "I'm looking forward to a fresh new challenge and I believe that Indonesia has great promise when it comes to the digital and non-traditional spheres."

Commenting on the appointment, Andrew Dowling, CEO, Y&R Jakarta said: "We are delighted that Kevin is joining us, he will be a huge creative asset to the agency. His appointment demonstrates our determination to build a creative legacy, which began last year when Y&R Jakarta were named the most creative agency in Indonesia by Campaign Magazine, and won Indonesia's first and only Cannes Gold Lion. We must continue to build a reputation for innovative thinking and Kevin's creative input will be invaluable in helping us to develop 'resist the usual' solutions for our client partners."

Jeep_Husky_Camel.jpgLe takes over from current Y&R ECD, Sachin Ambekar, who led the Y&R Jakarta team to Cannes glory with the LG Electronics GX200  campaign last year.

Marcus Rebeschini, Chief Creative Officer, Y&R Asia said: "Two years ago no one had heard much about Y&R Jakarta and Sachin played a huge role in helping us establish a strong presence in the Indonesian market and I truly thank him for that. Sachin is keen to explore new opportunities and I totally respect that and know he'll be an amazing creative asset wherever he goes. With Andrew Dowling just joining and Kevin now on board, I feel the office definitely has a powerful partnership at the helm.  With Kevin's talent and under his creative leadership I know we'll see even more creative stars emerging in Jakarta than we've seen in this recent year. He's an amazing hire and will be a great asset to the office."

Hey, Mr 7.15pm - Are you saying that Kevin though of the Jeep campaign? Wait I though it was Mun's idea.

Anonymous said:

He's a nice guy. but honestly the jeep campaign has was done quite sometime back.

are you all from bbdo? sorry to say but we havent' seen anything else except jeep

Anonymous said:

It's their own fault for not appointing Kevin to replace Mun as ECD! Who else could've filled his shoes?
Now BBDO is definitely gonna struggle in the creative field! But of course, what would the MD know about that, right? HAHA.

Hey what about Hans, I though he also work on the Jeep campaign.

Anonymous said:

Hey what else has he done?

These guys didn't even try to do any decent real work. Should have seen them in front of clients. Couldn't present just sat at one corner. How to lead?

I guess after Gary and Eric left for Singapore, BBDO didn't have anymore ideas.

Once upon a time in a forum somewhere online...

May 20 2009, 11:00 AM
I heard BBDO got 2 Yellow Pencils.

Word on the street is that Mun and the designer (fresh graduate some more) are going to accept the awards. Kevin Le declined to go because he said he only contributed a line (that's a magnanimous gesture and humility for you...respect!).

And that is why Kevin Le is so thought of highly in M'sia. Shame on you anons who try to tarnish his well deserved appointment by making (jealous) statements on his credibility.

Wasn't the Jeep Campaign Eric and Gary's idea? Those guys deserve a lot of credit

Anonymous said:

Jakarta? Not bad Kevin. Ronald's is in New York. Where's Mun?

Anonymous said:

Yo, what line are you talking about? There's no 'line' in those Jeep Posters.

Anonymous said:

Wow! There's no one left in BBDO. What's the new ECD doing?

The comment by 2.40 pm seems most telling, and Ive seen it happen with other so-called stars.....'two worlds' was just an initiative created not to solve a client's marketing problem but an awards shortage problem...massive difference. There's a shakedown taking place these days and most creatives who get off on such ads like two worlds have their heads so far up their ass(es) they cant or refuse to see it.

No one gives a damn if you can do ads like this any more.

Good Luck Kevin Le!

Kevin, Good Luck in Indonesia. May you find 3 beautiful wives and 25 concubines. Hope you do well with the awards and real work in Jakarta. You have not only helped BBDO win awards but also have thought the young writers here, like me and alot others on how to do good work. Clients and Fellow creative members will sorely miss you.
