J. Walter Thompson Bangkok bolsters its creative offering with the hire of four creative leaders

bkkhires.jpgJ. Walter Thompson Bangkok has deepened its creative bench, adding four highly-awarded leaders with Theerapol “Tim” Koomsorn and Vasan Wangpaitoon as Executive Creative Directors, Sunny Ng as Group Creative Director and Yee Kiang Tan as Creative Director.

Wangpaitoon, who has close to three decades’ experience in advertising, will be working on the AIS, Mondelez International (Halls, Clorets) and Top Charoen Optical accounts. He started his career at SPA Advertising and went on to work at Ogilvy & Mather, TBWA and BBDO Proximity, where last year he brought home a Gold award at Cannes Lions in the outdoor category for his work on the “Throatsil” campaign for Millimed Thailand, a pharmaceutical company. He also has a string of other awards from Cannes Lions, One Show, D&AD, London International Awards, BAD, ADFEST, Spikes Asia, ADMAN and others.

Koomsorn, who hails from Chicago, started his advertising career in San Francisco more than 20 years ago before heading east to work in Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur, serving stints at McCann, TBWA, Ongoing and Leo Burnett. He was most recently Executive Creative Director at Naga DDB in Kuala Lumpur. He has worked on every category of business, from automotive to sports to FMCG; most notably Adidas, Levi’s, Volkswagen, Chevrolet, MasterCard, Coke, Cadbury, Merck Pharmaceutical, Nestle and Samsung. Along the way, he has picked up awards at Cannes, One Show, Clio, London International Awards, San Francisco Show, AdFest, Media Spikes, Luerzers Archive, Communication Arts, BAD awards and Malaysia’s Kancil Awards. He counts among his proudest moments the time he got out of a speeding ticket because the police officer liked a commercial campaign he did. Koomsorn has a Master of Art (Advertising) degree from Academy of Art University in San Francisco.

Ng grew up in Kuala Lumpur and brings 21 years of agency experience. In that time, he has worked on over 100 brands including Sony, Gillette, Pantene, Guinness, Ikea, Adidas, Wrigley’s and Volvo. At J. Walter Thompson Bangkok, he will work on the Heineken, Kimberly-Clark, OMO, Kellogg’s, Bayer and Listerine accounts. Ng was most recently ASEAN Creative Director for WPP’s Team Procter & Gamble, an integrated specialist agency in Bangkok. Before that, he was Associate Creative Director at Grey Group Malaysia. He has won awards at Cannes, One Show, Promotion Marketing Awards Asia, MAA Worldwide GLOBES, Asia Interactive Awards, Asian Marketing Effectiveness Awards, AdStars Korea and Effies Malaysia among others. Ng is a graphic design graduate from Saito Academy of Art, Malaysia.

Tan comes with 14 years in advertising and will be handling Nestlé and Diageo at J. Walter Thompson Bangkok. He was most recently at Naga DBB in Kuala Lumpur, where he worked on the Hong Leong Bank, Panasonic and Astro Kids account, among others. He previously worked on key accounts for Coke, Digi, Proton, Panasonic, KFC, Carlsberg, Tourism Malaysia and others. Tan has taken home Malaysian Kancil awards, including Young Creative of the Year 2003. He was accepted into Clio Future Gold 2006 and ranked No. 5 in Campaign Brief Asia’s Creative List for Malaysia in 2006. Other feathers in his cap the first D&AD Yellow Pencil awarded to Malaysia, as well as Cannes Lions, One Show, Clio International, Young Guns, AWARD Australia, London International, Asian Media Awards, AdFest Asia and AdStars Korea.
