Craig Chester's Cannes Diary: Day Two

20150616_135445.jpgCraig Chester, CD, Saatchi & Saatchi Health, Sydney is sitting on the Health & Wellness Lions jury. Here is Chester's day two diary, reporting exclusively for CB.

There are many rules and regulations within healthcare advertising that many claim limit creativity. The Lions Health winners last year proved that these things can be overcome. After my first days jury duty I believe this year will be no exception.
Like all award shows there was the good and the not so good and then there was the very good that will be shortlisted. The simply awesome was much, much harder to find. Regardless I saw some work today that I would have been very proud to call my own.

20150616_1416294.jpgToday was a day of culling. There was some debate but I expect some relentless chatter about what is truly award worthy over the coming days as finalists begin to surface.

Technology, like last year is enhancing many good ideas and at the forefront of the creativity of others.

20150616_132702.jpgAnd I have noted that agencies have invested many hard earned dollars on slick videos to showcase their ideas. I also noted that many outdoor entries, if not the majority, have a decent production budget behind their entry case film which was a rarity a few years ago.

It's been a long day and I'm tired, inspired and looking forward to tomorrow. That's when culling will be completed and potential shortlisted entries will be selected for further discussion over the following two days. And as a result a few agencies will eventually be elated and a few disappointed. To all those who get a shortlisted entry I'd suggest you take a bow, because you will have earned the right. I'd also suggest to those that miss out not to be too dismayed. Even at this early stage of proceedings it is obvious that there is a very fine line between an entry achieving a shortlisting and a number of entries just missing out. Sadly, these will never know just how close they came to a little glory.
