Asia scores 100 shortlists at 2014 Clio Awards: Japan + India head Asia’s tally with 22 and 18

Dentsu_SoundSenna.jpgJapan leads a strong performance from Asia at the shortlist stage of the 2014 Clio Awards. Excluding the Craft categories, Asia has a total of 100 shortlists at Clio, with Japan leading the way with 22.

The next best performing country is India with 18. Hong Kong has 16 shortlists and Singapore recorded 14. The next best countries were China (10); The Philippines (9); Thailand and Malaysia (4 each); then Indonesia (2) and Sri Lanka and Vietnam (1 each). With craft categories included Asia haul is over 130 shortlists.

Dentsu Tokyo leads the agency pack from Asia with 15 shortlists, including 9 for their  “Sound of Honda / Ayrton Senna 1989” campaign for Honda Motors. Ogilvy & Mather Hong Kong also put in a strong performance with 13 shortlists (excluding craft); McCann Worldwide Mumbai has 9 shortlists (excluding craft) and BBDO Singapore has 5 shortlists (excluding craft).

Ogilvy Hong Kong’s Lego print campaign scored 6 of their shortlists. BBDO Singapore’s Guinness print also had 5 shortlists and McCann Mumbai has 7 shortlists for Penguin Audio Books. All three campaigns also scored further shortlists in the Print Craft category.

This year’s Clio jury featured a gender-equal juror committee to more equally represent contributions of women to the industry, 50/50. In addition, there was an even broader diversity of international talent, with 75 percent of the jury representing countries such as Colombia, Lebanon, Israel, Philippines, Belgium, South Africa, Peru and Serbia. The judging concluded in Malta two weeks ago.

The 55th CLIO Awards presentation will take place during New York City’s Advertising Week on October 1, 2014.
