TG_03.jpgFilm Construction Sydney has lured renowned Director Chris Godfrey to joined the roster bringing his VFX genius and vast experience as a character driven, visual effects innovator.

Godfrey’s extraordinary talent for taking VFX to a whole new realm is grounded in decades of award winning directing, editing, animation, compositing and design.

LestWeForget_01.jpgHis most notable work as VFX director/supervisor includes film classics like Babe: Pig in the City, The Thin Red Line, Moulin Rouge and The Great Gatsby (pictured top). But this inventor of the remarkable Eddie is also behind successful businesses like Animal Logic, and more recently award winning short film Lest We Forget (pictured above).

GREAT.jpgGodfrey joining Film Construction Sydney bolsters their growing team of directors who share a passion and skill base for story/humanity focused VFX. This is particularly true of Godfrey and coming off the rigors of long format, he’s looking forward to returning to commercials.

GREAT2.jpgSays Godfrey: “The succinct nature of commercials is appealing… however whether it’s an ad or a film project, what’s most important to remember is that we’re in the business of storytelling. So while I certainly have a lifetime of VFX knowledge with a few tricks up my sleeve, my desire is always the same – to ensure VFX are imaginative, emotionally connecting, and only ever deepen the audience’s experience of the story.”

Sandy Widyanata, director of the controversial “Greenpeace” spot that was blocked by Channel 9 (but went viral with 1.3 million hits) agrees wholeheartedly. Currently completing a new Cadbury Joyville spot in NZ, Widyanata is thrilled to have Godfrey on board. She says: “Chris Godfrey adds a whole new level of talent to the team. His inspiring work certainly underscores my love of marrying artful VFX with performance-based storytelling. I suspect his presence commercially is going to creatively raise the bar – something we can all look forward to.”

Adding to the team is Chris Cairns. Represented in the southern hemisphere by Film Construction, Cairns is the creative genius behind the ‘Brother – The times they are a changing’ up-cycled orchestra spot. Being all about collaboration and pushing creative parameters, Cairns loves to work with artists, brands, museums and bands.

He’s also a member of ‘Is This Good?’ the celebrated creative force (available through Film Construction for projects) whose unique mix of technology, science, art and direction result in magical interactive experiences audiences love.

While signing performance directors skilled in VFX hasn’t been a conscious drive, GM Tom Gibson sees real value in this talented team: “Essentially Film Construction favours directors with a love of humour, strong characters and performance-based filmmaking. These three share that ethos too, but they also bring to the table the magic and scope of superbly crafted imaginative VFX. It’s a huge bonus and Chris Godfrey is the icing on the cake. Now we can offer creative teams an incredible opportunity to work with THE master of VFX. “
