MyFirstTimeCoverWomen.jpgAdvertising schools around the world have already labeled this book ‘inspirational’, ‘motivational’ and ‘groundbreaking’.

Following on from the success of his first book “My First Time”, Phil Growick, one of the industry’s leading networkers in the USA, has released a sequel – “My First Time W”.

From top women creatives in advertising all over the world, the ones who create the best TV commercials and ads, the ones you love, the ones you remember, the ones you wish you had thought of yourself, come their own stories, in their own words, about the first work they ever did.

They talk about the zaniness and craziness. They talk about the good guys and the bad girls and vice versa. They talk about things you only think can happen on TV or in the movies, but actually happened to these people who are now creative leaders in advertising.

The dozens of contributors are a who’s who of the elite of the advertising creative world including five of AdAge’s just named “Most Influential Women in Advertising” – Susan Credle, Nancy Vonk, Janet Kestin, Linda Kaplan Thaler and Joyce King Thomas. Their stories have been compiled by Growick who has collected some quite stunning and revealing stories. Part of a series of My First Time books, this one is rather special as it lifts the lid on a host of controversial issues facing women in advertising. Growick is managing director at executive search company The Howard-Sloan-Koller.

The head of one of the US’s leading design schools commented: “This is a great initiative on a few different levels. Three-quarters of our students are women, but they see a very male environment in their advertising and branding internships; talking about creative direction and what that entails is really important at a time when the traditional art director/copywriter team model seems to be undergoing some serious questioning; anything with a conversation (and not individuals showing their work) makes for a learning experience for everyone, not just those who are watching”.

Over the next few months, a host of events are being held in the US off the back of the book including My First Time W panels at The One Club/NY, Creative Circus/Atlanta, FIT/NY (Fashion Institute of Technology), VCU Brandcenter/Richmond, SVA/NY (School of Visual Arts). Parsons School of Design/NY, to name a few.

My First Time W is available from all good bookstores including Barnes and Noble, Amazon and for download on Amazon Kindle and soon on the iPad and other formats.
