Component.jpgComponent Music artists James Banbury and Pete Davis have partnered with post-production company PixelBox for original music composition for television commercials in the Asia-Pacific region. Both Banbury and Davis are British nationals, with Banbury based in Hong Kong and Davis stationed in Sweden.

“As I’m based in Stockholm it allows Component to work almost 24 hours a day if the deadline requires, and gives us quick access to the UK for meetings and projects such as the recent Quality Solicitors campaign with Team Saatchi,” said Davis.

Banbury recalls, “When I arrived in Hong Kong two years ago, I couldn’t have dreamt of the opportunities that would arise. Through a couple of chance connections including Caroline Slocombe at Y&R and 4A agency veteran Chris Kyme, Component began to make a mark on the local and regional advertising scene through early work with Publicis, Proctor & Gamble and Dragonair.”

“I attended the 4A Kam Fan Awards last November as a research project to see who was doing what in the advertising business in Hong Kong, and started chatting with Chris Thorp and Mikyung Kim from PixelBox. At the time I was looking for a new studio, having outgrown my existing location and was struggling to find the right place,” said Banbury.

Thorp, the managing director at PixelBox explains, “We had always wanted to offer original music composition so partnering with James has given us the opportunity to expand in this area. Now we can truly provide full creative post-production for our all our client’s commercial campaigns.”

Component’s big breakthrough came when they won the account with McCann Erickson to compose the original music for six commercials as part of Cathay Pacific’s “People and Service” global 2011/12 campaign.

Banbury and Davis first collaborated as the electronic duo Dadahack in 2010. Between them they have worked on some of the biggest and critically acclaimed records of recent time including Gwen Stefani’s ‘The Sweet Escape’, Snow Patrol’s ‘Final Straw’ and ‘Eyes Open’, Bjork’s ‘Volta’, Shakira’s ‘Oral Fixation’, Spice Girl’s ‘Spice World’ and U2’s ‘The Original of the Species’.
