Receipt.jpgThe young talent in the Advertising, Digital, Design, Media and Student Award this year lived up to that expectation at this year’s YoungGun Awards announced today. Overall, in the Professional Awards (Advertising, Digital, Design & Media) 14 Gold Bullets, 48 Silver Bullets and 49 Bronze Bullets were awarded, with 58 Finalists. It was the young talent in Asia that led the fight for 2010 YoungGun of the Year, the best in show, between two brilliant ideas from Malaysia and Japan.  After much deliberation by the jury between the two ideas, the 2010 YoungGun of the Year was awarded to Douglas Goh from McCann Erickson Malaysia for his Receipt Stories idea (above) in the Content and Engagement Category.

“This is the first YoungGun of the Year from within the Asian region and we are delighted for Douglas,” said Kristian Barnes from YoungGuns.

“It also highlights the growing presence of the young talent in the region on the global creative stage. A Jury Special mention goes to Kana Nakano from Dentsu INC. Japan for her iButterfly idea in the Digital GPS or Location Technology Category.

As the 2010 Jury Chairman, Duncan Marshall, ECD & Partner Droga5 says in his Jury Chairman statement: “Every product and every client has something unique to offer, and the ideas that stood out this year were the ones that used those unique assets to create a real benefit to the consumer. And from that, generated a relationship with and a loyalty to the brand.

“From cutting edge digital to the humble coupon, the jury saw extraordinary original thinking and world class craft. Picking our YoungGun of the Year was, unsurprisingly, the result of long debate. The eventual winner, Receipt Stories, is a beautiful and idea that very simply taps into the basic emotional desire of all avid readers to be story-tellers themselves.

We decided also to award a special Jury Prize to an idea that reinvented that staple of advertising, the coupon, into a piece of entertainment. I-butterfly is an idea still in its infancy but with colossal potential as a piece of I.P. And as we all go about trying to reinvent ourselves in this rapidly changing industry, it’s inspiring to see young talent doing it best.”

The power of Asia’s young talent was also demonstrated in the YoungGuns 2010 Design Award, with Singapore, Hong Kong , Japan, India & Malaysia accounting for almost 50% of all Winners & Finalists. Further, as a single company, Kinetic Singapore dominated claiming 5 of the 18 Bullets awarded In the Design Award including 1 of 3 Gold Bullets, 3 of 6 Silver Bullets.

It is also worth noting that crafts in the Advertising Category did exceptionally well this year with a number of Gold and Silver Bullets.

In the Student Award 2 Gold Bullets, 9 Silver Bullets, 11 Bronze Bullets were awarded with 12 Finalists.
