Yasmin Ahmad’s ‘Funeral’ tvc wins 2 Gold Lions in the new Cannes Film Craft category
The superb talents of Yasmin Ahmad have been recognised in Cannes with 2 Gold Lions in the Film Craft category. The Gold Lions were awarded to Leo Burnett Singapore’s “Funeral” spot for the Singapore Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports just a few hours ago at the final Festival awards presentation.
The awards were won in the Copywriting and Direction categories. Yasmin was both the copywriter and the director of the spot. She directed the spot through Singapore production company, Dragonsgate Studio. Yasmin tragically died of a stroke last year.
Asia only had three shortlists in Film Craft and the third spot for Nike, via Wieden+Kennedy Tokyo, picked up a Silver Lion.
The Grand Prix for the Film Craft Lions was awarded to DDB London/DDB Worldwide for Philips ‘The Gift’ produced via RSA Films London.
Inthis sci-fi thriller, we are introduced to a dystopian future. It’s awinter’s day in Moscow, but the familiar landscape is not all it seems.The traditional backdrop is balanced by the technological hints to thefuture on show. An experienced KGB Agent is on his way to deliver aspecial gift. Expressionless and giving the aura of emptiness the loneman makes his way across the city. As the secret of the gift isunveiled to the receiver, the desire for the object becomes evident.The agent must have it. Even at the cost of a man’s life. A high octanechase through Moscow ensues as the dead man’s robotic butler tries torescue the precious gift.
