Director, producer and entrepreneur Spike Jonze presented D&AD President’s Award 2010

SpikeJonze was presented with the D&AD President’s Award in Londontonight (3 June) at the D&AD Awards Ceremony 2010. The D&ADPresident selects the recipient each year in recognition of anoutstanding contribution to creativity.  Past recipients include SirAlan Parker, Jonathan Ive, and Sir John Hegarty.

Jonzehas been awarded 6 D&AD Yellow Pencils since 1995 for his TVcommercials and music videos.  Known for his feature filmcollaborations with writer Charlie Kaufmann,’ he recently directed andco-adapted ‘Where the Wild Things Are’. He is also credited as aco-creator of MTV’s Jackass and is currently the creative director ofVBS.tv. He is part owner of skateboard company Girl Skateboards withriders and co-founded Directors Label with Chris Cunningham and MichelGondry.

D&AD President Paul Brazier said: “The term maverick is oftenoverused. But I don’t think anyone would deny that Spike Jonze is atrue creative maverick. And I am delighted to give him the D&ADPresident’s Award.

 

“The breadth of his work isstaggering, covering everything from music videos and advertising, toTV and feature films.  Yet he seems to have an inexhaustible supply oforiginal ideas, no matter what medium he works in. Although eachproject is distinctive in its own right, they are all marked by onething.  To watch Jonze’s work is to enter a world just like, and yetcompletely unlike, our own.”
