flf_challenge_webpage_01.jpgThere’s a hot new (free to enter) award for the creative world: The 2010 Framepool/LBB Online/Fireflies Challenge and entries are now open. In this cutting-edge competition, up and coming and established filmmakers vie for the approval of a prominent jury – and all to raise awareness for the fight against Leukaemia.

The 2010 Framepool/LBBOnline/Fireflies Challenge is a new global award for Directors and their teams: Contestants are asked to craft a spot/short film on the topic “courage”. The works will be judged by a jury of advertising industry super stars, including Jake Scott (RSA), Kim Gehrig (Academy), Olivier Altmann (Publicis), Ringan Ledwidge (Rattling Stick), Andy Gulliman (Saatchi & Saatchi), Stefan Sonnenfeld (Company 3), Sandy Watson (The Fireflies), Piyush Pandey (Ogilvy) and many more. The call for entries starts now and the entry deadline is May 20, 2010. The winners will be honoured on The Courage Beach on June 23, during the week of the Cannes Lions Festival.

Framepool, the footage collection run by filmmakers, and LBBOnline, the advertising community website, created this award dedicated to the Fireflies organisation. The Fireflies are committed to raising awareness and money for the fight against Leukaemia. Each year amateur cyclists from the ranks of the advertising and film world participate in the “Fireflies Tour” and cycle across the Alps from Geneva to Cannes. They were inspired by the courage it takes to fight Cancer. 2010 is the 10th anniversary Tour and to mark this milestone, the Fireflies are aiming to reach a ten year total of £1 million raised.

Directors, Animators and Filmmakers from all over the world can now help raise awareness of the Fireflies and raise their own profiles at the same time with this challenge.

flf_challenge_card_web_quality.jpgContestants are challenged to craft a beautiful piece of work, 30″ to 3 minutes long, showing their take on the meaning of the word ‘courage’ in its widest form…it can be anything that illustrates bravery, however extreme or seemingly insignificant. The overall intention is to acknowledge the courage of people who overcome difficulties in their everyday lives.

The only condition to entry is that entrants must use some stock footage to create this spot. And Framepool has kindly allowed entrants free usage of their footage for this challenge (see link below for rules).

The winner will be the first to receive this new annual award. A reel of the top ten films will be shown all around the world and will be viewed by thousands of creatives. Additionally, the winner will also receive 10 x 400ft 35 mm film rolls from our kind friends at Kodak.

The competition can be entered by a single person or a team; contestants can use as much talent as is needed – teamwork is encouraged! The entrant must use some stock footage to create this spot. Framepool allows the use of their stock footage library free of charge for the challenge. Contestants should prove how adaptable they are in this ever-changing commercial world. They can shoot, animate, adapt or add the rest in post production. Only, 20% of the film must feature stock footage. Footage from Framepool can be viewed (and downloaded) at www.framepool.com. After registration contestants have free access to all footage. More information at www.Framepool-Fireflies-Challenge.com
